The Records Dvision is responsible for the retention and dissemination of police records; monthly UCR reports; processing of gun dealer and concealed weapons permits; collection of fees; computer processing of reports, citations and arrest records; maintenance and disposition of all evidence processed by the Department; marijuana testing; computer maintenance troubleshooting; maintaining arrest file mug shots; assisting the public and other agencies as needed; providing internal support.

Record Request

Fingerprinting

The Shelton Police Department Records Division fingerprints Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.  The charge is $10.00 per card, this may be paid by cash or check.

Please bring valid identification and the fingerprint card(s) with you, with the cards filled out using black ink.  Print cards may be acquired from the requestor of the prints.

Concealed Pistol Permits

Concealed pistol permits are issued to City residents in the Shelton Police Department Records Division Monday through Friday.

You must be a City of Shelton resident to apply for a permit through the Shelton Police Department.  An application must be completed and fingerprints taken (Get application form at the Police Department).  There will be a 3 week waiting period before the original license is issued.

The processing fee for an original permit is $55.25 and must be paid at the time of application. If renewal of the permit is made within 90 days prior to the expiration, the fee is $32.00. If renewal is during the 90 days after the permit expires, the fee is $42.00. After 90 days past the permit's expiration date, it is necessary to start the process over. The fee for replacement of a permit is $10.00. All fees must be paid upon application and are non-refundable.

Record Request

The Shelton Police Department is committed to responding to your request for public records in a timely manner. This is also a requirement under the Washington State Public Disclosure Act (RCW 42.56).

So that we can process your request, we need a clear description of the specific record you are requesting. Within five business days (excluding holidays) of receiving your request we will either send you the record or an estimation of the time needed to comply with the request. If we are unable to comply with your request for some reason, we will provide you with the cause for the withholding of the record.
