Dog Licensing Requirements & Animal Control Updates

Home News List Dog Licensing Requirements & Animal Control Updates

In an effort to maintain a pet friendly environment and promote healthy dog ownership practices, the City of Shelton would like to remind residents of the current dog licensing requirements within City limits. All dogs older than six months must be licensed with the City of Shelton and maintain a current rabies vaccination. Licenses must be renewed annually and proof of vaccination must be provided. Dog licenses cost $15.00 per dog each calendar year. Residents may house a maximum of three dogs per household. Dog license applications can be found on the City’s website, and submitted to the Shelton Police Department at 525 W Cota Street, Shelton, WA 98584. Dog owners who fail to obtain a license for their dogs are subject to fines and additional impound fees in accordance with the Animal Shelter’s fee schedule.

Animal Control has recently picked up several lost or stray dogs. In response, the City has set up a new Found Dog page on the City website. Proof of ownership is required when claiming an impounded dog. To report a stray dog, please contact Animal Control at (360) 427-7503.

In partnership with Adopt-A-Pet of Shelton, the Animal Shelter also houses dogs that are available for adoption. Please visit the Animal Shelter’s Available for Adoption page to view the current list of available dogs. To inquire about adoption, please contact Adopt-A-Pet at (360) 432-3091.

Please contact Shelton Police Department Animal Control for additional information.
